This week the students are required to make make an in-circuit programmer. They exactly have to made an HELLO ISP programmer for using it during the nexts weeks for programming other boards like attiny44/45/85 based and newly including xmega type.
The first have to download the hello isp traces and outcut files from the academy webpage and convert them in to srm workable files with fabmodules webbrowser MIT programm
After making the toolpath, the have to cut it with SRM20 Mini CNC using 1/64 and 1/32 inch size micromills. After several trials the got each one a nice good looking board that they can solder.
Learning not only how to cut the pcb, also how to solder correctly very small components THIS ACADEMY WORK ON SMD TYPE OF COMPONENTS NOT TRUE HOLE!
Learn to Turn Codes into Things

Not everything is shiny
There is also lot of working hours andlot of frustation from the students until get nice results.
How they programm the boards? with another ISP PROGRAMMER already done last year from another student or theirs instructor.
Students also learn slowly how to use terminal window, makefiles, edit a little bit of code in all different computers and OSX.

Deep on PCB? We also tried the Vinylcutter machine to do somes flexible PCB, using copper tape, plastic film, kapton tape and a lot of pacience.Want to learn how? ( Click on the image to see a tutorial)
